Robert Quintana

Obituary

On December 5, 2022 at the age of 77, Bob passed away peacefully at his home in Ogden, Utah after suffering many years of lung disease complications. He was born June 12, 1945 to Antonio Quintana and Fern Martinez in Ogden, Utah.

Bob had many accomplishments and awards during his life, but most of all his unapparelled work ethic and dedication to anything he set forth to do. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1962. After graduating he served 4 years in the United States Air Force, where he attained culinary skills and later worked at the famous Ben Lomond Hotel in Ogden, Utah. He attended the Skill Center to learn the art of upholstery and worked in the family business Velvet Touch Upholstery. His preference of course was the beautiful automotive handwork he did with cars. Later he worked many years as a Rock Crusher Operator with Fife company and G&R construction.

In 1972, he married Dorothy “Dottie” Cloward, during their marriage Bob gained two sons Bryan and John and had two more David and Jared. They later divorced.

His love for the outdoors brought great adventures from camping for annual pig roasts up at Dry Bread Hollow to fishing, and skiing with his boys. He took pleasure in family get-togethers, his love for cooking, and was well known for his amazing Chile Verde. Bob loved watching sports especially his Dallas Cowboys and the Utah Jazz. As an avid blood donor, giving over 120+ pints to help others, his name is engraved on the Donor’s wall at Salt Lake City Hall as an honor to his donations.

He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, and his greatest treasure in life was his family. Always happy and encouraging to others, Bob enjoyed time spent and making memories with his loved ones. Armed with a big heart his personality always kept up smiles and laughter amongst those around him. His kindness was infectious and always wanted to ensure everyone was taken care of and felt welcomed no matter the occasion.

He married Karen Kennedy on January 20, 1996, ever since he referred to his sweetheart as his “Karen Love” and also gained a daughter Stacey.

Bob’s love of cars was more than just a hobby. He and Karen were members of the “Cruiser Club” of Ogden, Utah and traveled Utah abroad for car shows, competitions and site seeing cruises in their PT Cruiser.

Bob retired from Hill Air Force Base after many years of civil service working as a Sheet Metal Fabricator Specialist on the F4 Phantom and F15 fighter jets. After retirement Bob went all out and purchased a 1999 Plymouth Prowler, this car was his absolute passion and was meticulous and took a great pride in its care and appearance. He received many special awards for his prowler in local car shows loving every minute of it.

He was a member of AA and prideful of the many years of sobriety that he achieved. This accomplishment meant so much to him and he was grateful for the unforgettable impact, love and support by the program in which he developed many forever friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, niece and goddaughter Amber Lynn Uribe Quintana and special daughter-in-law Norma McMahon.

He is survived by his wife Karen Quintana; Children: Bryan (Tina) McMahon, Riverdale, UT; John McMahon, Boise, ID; Stacey (Kevin) Stickler, West Haven, UT; Debbie (John) Dalmer, Tucson, AZ; David (Michelle) Quintana, Syracuse, UT; Jared Quintana, Casper, WY; and godson Andy Beal, Ogden, UT.

Siblings: Antonio “Steve” (Lucy) Quintana, Saint George, UT; Ray (Stella) Quintana, West Valley, UT; Rachael (Robert) Garcia, Salt Lake, UT; Grace (Alfonso) Quintana, West Valley, UT; Joseph “Ralph” (Wendy) Quintana, Ogden, UT; Toni Quintana (Roddy Chacon), Del Norte, CO; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Bob will be missed dearly by all those who loved him, and we are all left to embrace the happiness we know he now feels. His memory and passion of cars will forever live on through his family and friends.

Special thanks to all the love, support and care given to Bob by his wife, Doctors and staff of Ogden Regional Hospital, his family, friends and neighbors.

I didn't really know Bob at Ben Lomond but later met him at several car shows we had been attending over the years.  He was very proud of his Prowler that he and his wife had acquired.  We would always talk cars but the conversation always turned to the BLHS days and common acquaintances.  Bob was truly one of the good guys.  Rest in peace Bob.

So sorry to hear about Bob passing.  I didn't know him well in school but worked with Karen at Bourns and we talked about him when they were first married.  My thoughts are with you Karen and your family at this time of loss.
