Larry Patane

Obituary

Laurence (Larry) Patane, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 13, 2023, at 7:00 a.m.  Larry was born May 5, 1945, to Gioacchino Laurence Patane (G.L) and Winona Hodgson (Nonie) in the original McKay Dee hospital.  At a young age his family moved to Brooklynn, New York to live by his father’s family, but were back in Utah by 1950.  In his life he lived in several northern Utah cities, but Ogden was his home.

He graduated from Ben Lomond High school in 1963.  Went on to study at BYU and graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA).

The Lord has always been important to Larry.  While in High School he took a field trip to Temple Square.  It sparked some interest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  That spark grew and he was baptized as a member on October 28, 1962.

As a new member of the Church, he felt the desire to serve a mission and he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Wyoming, where they were getting ready to build the Fontanelle Dam.  With that money he served a mission to Paris, France for 3 years.

In 1968 he married April Josephine Feagan (Jill Moore).  To that union there were three children born.  Wendy Lynn Olsen, Clay Laurence Patane, and Holly Patane Teeples.

In 1990 he married a second time in the Ogden L.D.S. Temple to Sonja Ash.  They too were blessed with three children, Jacob Laurence Patane, Jared Laurence Patane, and Nicole Patane.  Larry and Sonja had been married 32 ½ years at the time of his passing.

Larry had a variety of jobs as he worked his way through school, but finally ended up working as an accountant for his father who was a C.P.A.  Working in the First Security Building in downtown Ogden.  That experience along with his B.A. in Education helped him land the job that would turn into his life’s work at The Ogden-Weber Applied Tech College.  He taught accounting there just shy of 39 years.

Larry had the opportunity to serve in many callings during 61 years as a member of the church.  Including being Bishop, High Councilor, Stake Clerk, Stake Finance Clerk and many more.  But his all-time favorite was cub Scout Leader, what man wouldn’t want to be a boy again.

Larry is survived by his wife, 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 9 living great grandchildren.  He was met in heaven by his parents, in-laws, and great grandson Kayden.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 19, 2023, at the Mt. Lewis 2nd Ward, 435 No. Jackson Ave.,   Ogden, Utah.  Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior from 9:00 – 10:40 a.m.

Services entrusted to Myers Ogden Mortuary
