Von Carpenter

Wayne Carpenter Obituary

Wayne LaVon Carpenter, better know as Von, returned to his heavenly home on January 28, 2024, with his sweetheart and family by his side.  Von was born to Wayne Loren and Iola Allred Carpenter on September 26, 1945, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Von attended Ogden city schools, graduating from Ben Lomond High where he was involved in all sports programs. He also graduated from Weber State College.

Von served in the New Zealand North Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved the people he served. He had a testimony of his Savior and was a faithful member of the church where he held various callings throughout his life.

Von served honorably in the United States Airforce and Army Reserves as a helicopter Crew Chief, where he was later honorably discharged. He worked in Law Enforcement for 37 years, serving in Ogden City, Roy City, and Weber County.

In his teen years he spent his summers working on his grandfather’s farm in Osgood, Idaho where he learned the art of farming.  He loved it so much that in later years, he and Joan purchased a small farm in Blossom.  He loved every aspect of the farm, including irrigating at all hours of the night, caring for the horses, and even shoveling manure.  He just really loved a hard day’s work.

He loved his family and was so grateful for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who brought him so much joy.

Von Married Joan Call on June 14, 1968, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a life they loved. They were blessed to have four children, Kenny Carpenter, Tania (Rodney) Peterson, Angie (Matthew) Linford, and Camille (Jory) McCormick.  He is survived by his wife and children, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; along with his sister Gailene (Max) Creager, brothers Terry (Les) Carpenter, Robert (Carol) Carpenter, and Kim Carpenter. Preceded in death are his parents and sister Connie Carpenter Jones.

We would like to give a big thank you to his nurse Donette who truly has been an angel for us. Thanks to Inspiration Home Health and Hospice for their kindness and care, and the many hours spent to help keep Von comfortable.  We would also like to thank Dr Justin Mansfield for his many years of caring for Von.

A celebration of his life with funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Jensen Park Ward building, 3024 S 1200 W, Syracuse, UT. Viewings will be held Friday, February 2, 2024 from 6-8 at Myers Mortuary, 5865 S 1900 W Roy, UT, and prior to the funeral from 10:00-10:30 at the church.
