Sheilla Summers (Ruckstuhl)

Sheilla Dawn Ruckstuhl

December 22, 1944 – November 30, 2020

Sheilla Dawn (Summers) Ruckstuhl passed away on Monday, November 30, 2020 at the age of 75 due to complications from COVID-19. Family was the most important thing to Sheilla, and how right it is that she was able to leave this life peacefully in the company of her daughter and son, especially in light of COVID restrictions. Her husband, Terry Ruckstuhl, preceded her in death by only eight days. Though grieving, their family takes comfort that Sheilla and Terry passed from this world together.

Sheilla was born in Logan, Utah, on December 22, 1944, as the youngest daughter to Melvin Harold and Pearl Evelyn (Watterson) Summers. She attended Ben Lomond High School, and often shared many fond memories of her time there.

Sheilla married Terry Rainer Ruckstuhl on June 20th, 1965, in Ogden, Utah. Terry and Sheilla were sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 18th, 1977. They spent 55 wonderful years together on this earth, now continuing the journey in each other’s company.

Sheilla worked as a teacher’s assistant for Adams County School District 50, where she taught English as a Second Language and spent most of her career at Mesa Elementary School.

Sheilla was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving the children and youth there. She was also passionate about family history and her pioneering heritage, as she worked to preserve and pass down the stories of her family.

In death, Sheilla is not only reunited with Terry, but also her parents, her eldest sister, Shirley (Garland Carr), and her grandsons, Tyler Ruckstuhl and Christian Ruckstuhl.

Sheilla is survived by her two children, Julie (Ruckstuhl) Thompson and John Ruckstuhl, and their spouses Steven Thompson and Jacqui (Griffin) Ruckstuhl, respectively. She was lovingly known as “Gram” to her grandchildren; Hillary (Thompson) Menke, Zachary Thompson, Emma Ruckstuhl, and Ethan Ruckstuhl. She is also survived by her sister Joyce (Walter Bielik) of Ogden, Utah.

Sheilla will be remembered for her deep love and care for her family, for her loyalty to her friends, and for the heritage she sought to pass down.

Interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
